On July 13, 2005, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia congratulated the newly-elected President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, K. S. Bakiev. Below is the text of the patriarchal congratulatory message.
Your Excellency,
Highly Esteemed Kurmanbek Salievich,
I cordially congratulate you on your impressive victory in the presidential election in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
During the celebrations on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, when you were on a visit to Moscow, I was delighted to meet you and exchange opinions on burning issues faced today by both Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
In the beginning of the new, 21st century, and the third millennium, the Russian Orthodox Church, just as before, seeks to bear witness in word and deeds to the long-standing bonds of friendship between our countries and peoples who remain committed to interethnic harmony and interconfessional cooperation.
I hope that through your far-sighted policy in the new situation in its historical life Kyrgyzstan will take the path of developing constructive cooperation with Russia, being at the same time a reliable partner in ever broadening relations with countries in the near and far abroad.
I wish to you, Highly Esteemed Kurmanbek Salievich, spiritual and physical strength, wisdom, patience and blessed success in the very difficult service that lies ahead of you at the high and responsible post of the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
May the Most High help you to fulfill the diverse obligations you have assumed so that the peoples of the multi-ethnic republic you lead may live in prosperity, peace and harmony.
With sincere respect,
+ALEXY
PATRIARCH OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA
