The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church met on April 18, 2005, with His Excellency Mario Silberman Gurovic, Chilean Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary in Russia.

During their talk at the Synodal and Patriarchal Residence at St. Daniel’s monastery, they discussed the present state of relations between the Russian and Chilean nations and provisions for a parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Santiago de Chile.

The Chilean Ambassador expressed support for the work of the Russian Orthodox Church in his country, especially in the Chilean capital city where a beautiful Russian Orthodox church has been erected, dedicated to St. John the Theologian. According to Mr. Gurovic, there is a considerable number of Orthodox natives of Russia living in his country.

Having underlined that Chile, just as the Russian Federation, is a multi-confessional country, His Excellency informed His Holiness that people in his country show a lively interest in the time-honoured Orthodox tradition.
