A procession with the cross is being held today, April 6, 2005, in Kiev, protesting against the interference of the state into the internal affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The participants are especially concerned for the spreading reports that a part of the Kiev Laura of the Caves may be given over to the uncanonical ‘Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kiev Patriarchate’. This part of the monastery has been recently closed for visitors.
The procession began at 9 o’clock in the morning from the Kiev Laura of the Caves. Its route runs by the Supreme Rada and the Ukrainian Presidential Administration through the Europe Square and Kreschatik to the Sophia Square.
It is planned to present Ukrainian state leaders with a written message addressed from Orthodox believers to President Victor Yuschenko.
