A delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church expresses condolences to the Vatican representative in Russia

A delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church led by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, permanent member of the Holy Synod, visited on April 4, 2005, the Representation of the Holy See in the Russian Federation. The delegation included Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov; Bishop Mark of Yegorievsk and Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, vice-chairmen of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, Rev. Igor Vyzhanov, acting DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and Mr. A. Dolgov of the DECR secretariat for inter-Christian relations.

 

Metropolitan Juvenaly made an entry in the book of condolences at the Vatican representation, which was also signed by the other members of the delegation. The entry reads as follows:

 

‘On behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, we express profound fraternal condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and her clergy and laity over the demise of His Holiness Pope John Paul II of Rome. Give him rest eternal in blessed falling asleep, O Lord.

The delegation was welcomed by the permanent representative of the Holy See to the Russian Federation, Archbishop Antonio Mennini of Ferento, and the secretary of the Holy See representation, Mgr. Ante Josic. Present there was also Archbishop Tadeush Kondrusevich, Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, to whom Metropolitan Juvenaly offered his condolences.

 

After writing in the book of condolences, the delegation proceeded to the representation’s chapel to say a prayer for the rest of the soul of the deceased Pope John Paul II.
