His Holiness the Patriarch Visits the Embassy of Greece on the Sunday of Orthodoxy

On 20 March 2005 His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia attended a reception in the Embassy of Greece given on the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy.

Taking part in the festive event also were Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna; Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Archbishops Arseny of Istra and Alexy of Orekhovo-Zuevo; Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov; Bishop Mark of Yegorievsk, deputy chairman of the Department for External Church Relations; Bishop Athanasios of Kyrenaika, representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria with the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Archbishop Nifon of Philipopolis, representative of the Patriarch of Antiochia and All the East with the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Russian state and public figures, the diplomats who represent foreign countries in the Russian Federation, and cultural figures.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church was greeted by H.E. Dimitrios Paraskevopoulos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Greek Republic in the Russian Federation, who presented His Holiness with an old framework for the Book of the Gospels.

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy congratulated the Ambassador of Greece with the feast and presented him with commemorative medals issued for the jubilee dates in 2003-2004: the 100th anniversary of canonization of St.Seraphim of Sarov and his 250th birthday.
