METROPOLITAN KIRILL IN GENEVA
On 3-4 November Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate visited Geneva to control the work of Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church at the World Council of Churches.
Metropolitan Kirill celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin at the Representation in Geneva on 4 November, which is the feast of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan.
Metropolitan Kirill addressed the faithful after the Liturgy with the words of spiritual instruction. In his homily he told about the feast, and said how important is to know the history of our Church and Fatherland. The feast of Our Lady of Kazan is the feast of victory over the conquerors of Russian Land preserved by the Russian Church. This victory is especially important because it was granted in response to deep faith, with which people addressed the Holy Virgin before Her Icon. Metropolitan expressed hope that not only Russians, but people in the West as well will come to understanding that only deep faith can be firm basis for establishing life of society. For those, who are far from Motherland, the faith is the connecting link, which unites us with our Church and Motherland.
