HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH ALEXY CELEBRATES THE ALL-NIGHT VIGIL SERVICE ON THE EVE OF THE ELEVATION OF THE HONOURED AND LIFE-CREATING CROSS IN THE TALLINN CATHEDRAL OF ST.ALEXANDER NEVSKY
In the evening of September 26, the eve of the feast of the Elevation of the Honoured and Life-Creating Cross, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy celebrated the All-Night Vigil service with the office of the Elevation of the Cross in the Tallinn Cathedral of the Holy and Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky.
Concelebrating with His Holiness were Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Metropolitan Alexander of Riga and All Latvia, Metropolitan Kornily of Tallinn and All Estonia, Archbishop Arseny of Istra and Bishop Feognost of Sergiev Posad. After the All-Night Vigil His Holiness Patriarch Alexy addressed the numerous believers:
‘I congratulate you on the feast of the invention and solemn elevation of the Honoured and Life-Creating Cross, which we venerate today, standing before it. All of us have the of our crosses of their own in their lives, and we remember that a man cannot be given a cross, which he cannot carry. We must remember the words of Christ the Saviour: ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’ (Mt 16:24). We must take up our crosses, looking at the Cross of Christ. When we are in distress, when it seems to us that we are exhausted from the heavy cross of our life, we must beseech the Divine Bearer of the Cross our Lord Jesus Christ to give us strength for carrying our little cross’.
For the believers who could not get into the overcrowded cathedral, the Divine service was broadcast to a large monitor, installed in the Loosi Platz – the square, where the Cathedral of St.Alexander Nevsky and the building of Riygikogu – the Estonian Parliament are located.
