Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia met with Archbishop Antonio Mennini of Ferento, a newly appointed representative of the Holy See to the Russian Federation, on February 20, 2003, at his working residence in Chisty Pereulok The Apostolic Nuncio handed over to the Patriarch the Vatican’s directions confirming his appointment as head of the diplomatic representation in Moscow.

The parties discussed the current situation and future prospects of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church and paid special attention to the necessity of solving the problems that impede the interchurch dialogue.

The meeting was also attended by Rev. Tomasz Grysa, secretary of the Holy See to the Russian Federation, and Igor E. Vyzhanov, a DECR staff-member of the Secretariat for the Inter-Christian Relations.
