THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH PROVIDES SUPPORT TO FLOODS VICTIMS IN THE NORTHERN CAUCASUS

The Russian Orthodox Church continued providing aid to people hit by floods in the North Caucasus. The Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate has worked out and carries out a special humanitarian program together with the international Christian ‘Actions be Churches Together’ organization, a long-standing partner of the Russian Orthodox Church in providing aid in emergencies.

In the framework of the program, ration packs and hygienic items has been distributed among 40.300 victims of socially unprotected categories, such as are pensioners, low-income and large families and the displaced. The action was carried out in the most flood-hit areas of the Stavropol region, the Republic of Northern Ossetia – Alania and the Nadterechny district of the Chechen Republic. The aid was distributed with assistance of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Stavropol, Ministry for Emergencies and local authorities.

This program is part of the efforts by the Russian Orthodox Church to support socially unprotected people, who have suffered from emergencies in various regions of Russia. This church action is particularly focused on the Northern Caucasus, where the Russian Orthodox Church has taken many humanitarian initiatives to provide aid to displaced people from Chechnya since 1995.
