THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH CONDEMNS A POSSIBLE MILITARY ACTION IN IRAQ
Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and Primorje heading a delegation of the Serbian Orthodox Church which is on visit to Rome made a statement on the preparations by some Western powers for a military action against Iraq.
“In the 20th century alone, our Church and our people underwent seven wars. We continue to suffer from deep wounds inflicted upon us during the hostilities. The tragic events in Kosovo had the gravest consequences. Therefore, the Serbian Orthodox Church calls upon all those in power and most of all the leaders of the United States of America and their allies not to unleash war against Iraq. The outcome of this war will be not only sufferings and death of peaceful citizens in this country, but also a new defeat of us all and a new shame of the entire humanity,” he said.
