A PROCESSION WITH CROSS TO MAMAYEV BARROW HELD ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF VICTORY IN STALINGRAD BATTLE
Over one thousand people took part in the prayerful march to the Mamayev Barrow on February 1, 2002, to commemorate the soldiers who died defending Stalingrad. The procession with the cross was led by Metropolitan German of Volgograd and Kamyshin, who carried the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan which His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia has given to the church of All Saints under construction on the barrow.
According to the Stalingrad Battle panorama museum staff, it was before the Kazan Icon of the Heavenly Queen that a prayer service had been held on the eve of the counter-offensive on the left bank of the Volga river.
The procession with the cross concluded with a requiem service before the common grave on the Mamayev Barrow where the aches of 35 thousand defenders of the heroic city on the Volga lie in rest.
