MEETING OF THE COORDINATING COMMITTEE FOR COOPERATION BETWEEN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND THE MOSCOW PATRIARCHATE

The Coordinating Committee for Cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Moscow Patriarchate met on December 24, 2002. L. Grebnev, deputy minister of education, chaired the meeting. Taking part in it were Metropolitan Sergius of Solnechnogorsk, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archbishop Eugene of Vereya, chairman of the Education Committee, Archimandrite Ioann (Ekonomtsev), chairman of the Department for Religious Education and Catechism, and other church and state leaders. The participants discussed the establishment of a guidance board for teaching Orthodox Culture and the regional experience in teaching this discipline. A report on the practice of teaching Orthodox Culture in the Kursk Region was made by V. Menshov, head of the Chair of Religious Studies at the Kursk State Pedagogical Institute.
