THE WEB SITE OF THE REPRESENTATION OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH TO THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS IS NOW OPERATIONAL
The web site of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church to the European Institutions is now operational.
The main objective of this site is to present and interpret the official position of the Russian Orthodox Church on issues relating to the processes of European integration, as well as on other matters of current interest. Various materials concerning the life and teaching of the Orthodox Church, including its theological and liturgical traditions, can also be found on this site.
The site, which operates in English and French, is divided into several sections. The ‘Home’ section contains welcome messages in English and French, as well as featuring news items and recent articles. The ‘News’ section includes news relating to the work of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Brussels Representation, to the life of the Russian Orthodox Church and to the Church’s dialogue with European political institutions. The ‘Background Information’ section provides information about the Russian Orthodox Church, its Patriarch, its Brussels Representation, its Statutes and its Social Concept. The ‘Christianity in Europe’ section contains various articles dedicated to the role of Christian Churches on the European continent and their relations with the political world.
Other materials appear in the ‘Church life’, ‘Inter-Orthodox Relations’, ‘Ecumenical Relations’, and ‘Inter-Religious Dialogue’ sections. The ‘Catechism’, ‘Theology and Spirituality’, ‘Liturgy and Prayer’, and ‘Church History’ sections are under construction.
The web site includes also all issues of the ‘Europaica’ electronic bulletin, which is published by the Representation and is distributed free of charge to about 3000 subscribers all over the world.
The web site has been created and is maintained by the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church to the European Institutions, Bishop Hilarion of Podolsk, in collaboration with Maxim Leonardov (webmaster), Dimitri Siniakov (French editor), and a number of students from the Russian Orthodox Church studying at major European universities.
