Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad gave certificates to the graduates of the Orthodox Gymnasium

METROPOLITAN KIRILL OF SMOLENSK AND KALININGRAD GAVE CERTIFICATES TO THE GRADUATES OF THE ORTHODOX GYMNASIUM

On 23 June 2002 after the Divine Liturgy at the Smolensk Cathedral of the Assumption there took place the second graduation act of the Orthodox gymnasium. Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad presented the leaving certificates, a silver medal, and certificates of merit to the graduates. In 2001-02 academic year 22 students graduated from the gymnasium, one girl with a silver medal. An average mark of the graduates is 4,3.

The years of studying in the Gymnasium were rich and memorable. The students took part in all traditional Christmas or Easter celebrations in the Smolensk State Drama Theatre. The students sing in the children’s and youth choir of the Cathedral of the Assumption, which got a prize at the Choral Art Competition in Riga.

The graduates of 2002 laid a foundation to the students’ academic society. They received prizes at the city and region Olympiads several times and took part in various students’ competitions and conferences. The graduates of the gymnasium can continue their education in the All-Russia school of postal tuition. Many of the graduates received diplomas with honours there.

The students of the gymnasium make pilgrimages to the cities and monasteries of Russia.

The Smolensk Orthodox gymnasium is a public institution of general education. It has a license and accreditation of the Regional Committee for People’ Education. The first graduates continue their education in the institutions of higher education, including the Russian Orthodox University, St.Tikhon’s Theological Institute, the Smolensk State Teachers’ University, and also in the College of Communication and Telecommunications, the Medical and Teachers’ Training colleges.

The faculty of the Smolensk Orthodox gymnasium pursue an object of mastering the fundamental knowledge by the students and educating them on the basis of the Orthodox spiritual and moral values.
