His Holiness Patriarch Alexy awarded Gold Falcon Order of the World Community Council

HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH ALEXY AWARDED GOLD FALCON ORDER OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY COUNCIL

On August 21, 2002, His Holiness Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, was presented with the International Public Gold Falcon Order in the nomination “For Generosity of Thoughts and Deeds”, at a special ceremony in the Church Councils’ Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savoir.

According to the nomination formula, the order was awarded to His Holiness for “his tireless work during many years for deepening people’s belief in good and justice and promoting social harmony and friendship among states.” Marshal Kulikov, Hero of the Soviet Union and president of the World Community Council for Awarding the Gold Falcon Order, presented the decoration to His Holiness the Patriarch.

In his response the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said: “I regard this order not as the appraisal of my modest work, but as the recognition of and gratitude to the Russian Orthodox Church which has shared all joys and ordeals of her people over many centuries.” Today, the aim of the Russian Orthodox Church was not only to help people find faith, but also strengthen the moral health of society and social harmony and peace, the Patriarch said.

Other prize-winners were: Colonel-General V. Vasilyev, deputy Russian Minister of the Interior; former Russian Prime-Minister Evgeny Primakov, Mr. Vlasov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Malta; Army General A. Kulikov, deputy of the Russian State Duma; Sergey Stepashin, Russian State Duma deputy and the Audit Chamber chairman, Air Marshal E. Shaposhnikov, Russian President assistant, and journalist and publisher Artem Borovick (posthumously).

The International Public Gold Falcon Order was founded in 1999. The main aim of the founders is to engage people and public organizations in promoting cooperation, harmony and friendship among nations, improving social and economical life, developing culture and preserving human common values.
