Basic Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church discussed in the diocese of Ivano-Voznesensk

BASIC SOCIAL CONCEPT OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH DISCUSSED IN THE DIOCESE OF IVANO-VOZNESENSK

Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations visited the diocese of Ivano-Voznesensk on July 4, 2002, at the invitation of Ivanovo Governor V. Titov and Archbishop Ambrose of Ivano-Voznesensk and Kineshma. During his visit he attended the Action-Reflection Readings devoted to the Basic Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Among the speakers at the plenary meeting in the Grand Hall of the Ivanovo Legislative Assembly were Chief Federal Inspector for the Ivanovo Region, Ye. Shkolov, Chairman of the Regional Legislative Assembly V. Grishin, Ivanovo Vice-Governor N. Brovitsin, and other regional officials.

The City Administrative Staff Director F. Batov read out a message from the Ivanovo Mayor A. Groshev.

Metropolitan Kirill made an extensive presentation on various aspects of the Social Concept and answered numerous questions from participants in the Readings.

After the plenary session, Metropolitan Kirill had a talk with Mr. V. Grishin.

Later that day, Archbishop Ambrose gave a dinner in honour of Metropolitan Kirill at the Diocesam Administration building. Present at the dinner was also the Governor of Ivanovo.

In conclusion of the visit, Metropolitan Kirill met with the clergy and laity of the Ivanovo Region
