General Council of the United Russia Party Supports the Construction of a Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Kaliningrad

GENERAL COUNCIL OF THE UNITED RUSSIA PARTY SUPPORTS THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOR IN KALININGRAD

Travelling session of the General Council of the United Russia Party took place in Kaliningrad on June 22, 2002. Representatives of the party headed by A. Bespalov, chairman of the General Council, visited a building site of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The guests were accompanied by Governor V. Egorov and Mayor Y. Savenko. The Rev. Vladimir Kuzmin, sacristan of the Cathedral, told members of the delegation about building works and parochial life.

Representatives of the United Russia party noted a special spiritual and symbolic meaning of the erecting of a magnificent Orthodox cathedral in the extreme West of Russia. During the press conference at the airport, leadership of the General Council of the party stated that the ‘United Russia’ was ready to provide practical assistance to complete the building of the cathedral as soon as possible.
