HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH ALEXY II OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA RECEIVES A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNITED BIBLE SOCIETIES

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia received the regional secretary of the United Bible Societies for Europe and the Middle East, Rev. Miller Milloy, and president of the Russian Bible Society, Archpriest Alexander Borisov, on June 5, 2002, at his working residence in Chisty Lane. Participating in the meeting was also the Director of the Synodal Library, Archpriest Boris Danilanko.

Rev. Miller Milloy conveyed to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church a reply letter from the General Secretary of the United Bible Societies, Nil Crosby, stating in particular the high level of cooperation between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Bible Society.

The Patriarch and his guests discussed projects for disseminating the Bible to remote parts of the country and prisons and problems involved in publishing the Bible for the blind.

Rev. Miller Milloy gave to the Patriarch an advanced copy of the new Synodal edition of the Bible and a copy of the new historical and geographical map of Palestine as it was at the time of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev. Miller Milloy also informed the Patriarch that an invitation was sent to His Holiness to bless the House of the Bible in Moscow after its construction would be completed in a year’s time.

The House of the Bible is a fellowship of national Bible Societies engaged in translation, publication and dissemination of Holy Scriptures. The Russian Bible Society was founded with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy Ii in 1991 on the basis of the USSR Bible Society. The first Russian Bible Society began to work in St. Petersburg as far back as the early 19th century.
