THE PATRIARCH OF RUMANIA SHARES THE POSITION OF THE MOSCOW PATRIARCHATE ON THE ACTIONS OF THE VATICAN IN RUSSIA
In his message to His Holiness Alexy, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Beatitude Teoctist, Patriarch of Rumania, expressed his full solidarity with the position of the Moscow Patriarchate on the one-sided decision of the Roman Catholic Church to change the status of its administrative structures in Russia.
The message points out that the Rumanian Orthodox Church brotherly shares the concern for the consequences of these moves, which has been expressed by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy, the Holy Synod, clergy and all faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as the Primates of the Orthodox Sister Churches. According to His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist, this one-side decision causes damage to theological dialogue between the Orthodox and Catholic Christians.
The Primate of the Rumanian Orthodox Church also expressed his regret and concern in his message to the Pope John Paul II. The Patriarch stressed the necessity to develop dialogue and to establish constructive cooperation between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, which has been hampered by the recent decision of the Vatican to create a new “church province” in Russia.
