SESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN INTERCONFESSIONAL CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE BOARD
A session of the Christian Interconfessional Consultative Committee Board (CICC) was held at the Department for External Church Relations on 24 January 2002. Present were Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations; Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Ippona Zarito, Apostolic Administrator for the Latin Rite Catholics in the European part of Russia; V.S. Pudov, Chairman of the Moscow Representation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia; Rev. The participants exchanged their opinions on a wide range of problems of the relationship between the state and religious organizations. As to the implementation of Chapter 25 of the 2nd part of the Russian Federation Tax Code which presupposes taxation of the activities of religious organizations, a text of the letter to the RF President V.Putin, State Duma Speaker G.Seleznev and Chairman of the Federation Council S.Mironov was adopted. The necessity to improve the mechanism of dialogue between the state and religious organizations and to work with the state bodies in the matters of taxation was emphasized.
A serious concern was expressed about a threat to human dignity, rights and freedoms, which the new opportunities of electronic control over private life of the citizens pose. It was agreed to hold a round table on 17 April 2002 taking part in which would be scholars, representatives of the state power and religious organizations.
It was also agreed to hold next autumn a conference on the problems of the integrity of life and human nature (in connection with the problem of cloning, genetic engineering, abortions and artificial intellect).
