HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH PAVLE OF SERBIA VISITS THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

On 20 January 2002 His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia arrived in Moscow to visit the Russian Orthodox Church at the invitation of the Unity of Orthodox Nations Foundation. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and members of the Holy Synod met the Primate of the Serbian Church at the Sheremetyevo Airport. His Holiness Pavle said that he was happy to visit Holy Russia – the defender of Orthodoxy in the world. ‘I have come to my own people’, – said the Patriarch of Serbia.

The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church was accompanied by Metropolitan Amfilohije of Crna Gora and Primorje, Bishop Justin of Timpok and Protosyngel Antony (Pantelich), an appointed Rector of the Representation of the Serbian Church in Moscow, and also by Priest Vitaly Tarasjev, Rector of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade.

On January 21 Patriarch Pavle celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Ss Peter and Paul Church at the Yauzky Gates – the future representation church of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

There are plans to discuss the problems of All-Orthodox unity, church schisms and situation in the Balkans at the negotiations between the Primates of the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches to he held at the residence of His Holiness Patriarch Moscow and All Russia in Chisty lane.

In the evening, the Hall of Church Councils in the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour will house a ceremony, at which His Holiness Patriarch Pavle will be awarded a prize from the Unity of Orthodox Nations Foundation for his contribution into the strengthening of spiritual and historical and cultural unity of his country. On January 20, His Holiness Pavle answered the questions of the press and noted that his award testifies to the support of all Serbian people and of the old Serbian Church.

On January 22, Patriarch Alexy and His Holiness Patriarch Pavle will celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the Kremlin Cathedral of the Assumption. That same day the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church will attend the evening divine service in St.Daniel’s Monastery.

On January 23 His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia will depart for Belgrade.
