METROPOLITAN KIRILL OF SMOLENSK AND KALININGRAD VISIT THE YEKATERINBURG DIOCESE
On 22-23 December 2001 Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, visited Yekaterinburg at the invitation of Archbishop Vikenty of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturje and Governor E.Rossel of the Sverdlovsk region.
On Sunday, December 23, Metropolitan Kirill concelebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Yekaterinburg with Archbishop Vikenty of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturje and many clergymen.
During his stay in Yekaterinburg Metropolitan Kirill met with Governor E.Rossel of the Sverdlovsk region, P.Latyshev, plenipotentiary representative of the Russian Federation President in the Ural Federal region, and Yekaterinburg Mayor A.Chernetsky.
Metropolitan Kirill looked through the construction of the memorial Church of All the Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Russia.
Metropolitan Kirill met and talked with Prof.G.Romatsev, Rector of the Russian State Pedagogical University and later with the faculty, students and representatives of public circles on ‘Russian Orthodoxy in the Contemporary World’.
Metropolitan Kirill visited the Monastery dedicated to the Imperial Passion-Bearers (Ganina Yama), where he met with General Director of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company A.Kozitsyn, who is largely contributing to the construction of the Monastery.
The programme of Metropolitan Kirill’s visit to Yekaterinburg was completed with a press conference.
