Official delegations of the Patriarchates of Constantinople and Moscow meet again

OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS OF THE PATRIARCHATES OF CONSTANTINOPLE AND MOSCOW MEET AGAIN
As was agreed earlier, official delegations of the Patriarchates of Constantinople and Moscow met on October 29-30,2001, to consider ways to overcome ecclesiastical disorder in Ukraine.
The delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople included Metropolitan John of Pergamon, Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia, General Secretary of the Holy Synod, and Archbishop Vsevolod of Skopelos.
The Moscow Patriarchate was represented by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Agaphangel of Odessa and Izmail, permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations and the Russian Orthodox Church institutions abroad.
Among the subjects considered was the point of view of the Ukrainian Government on the issue under discussionas presented by Dr. V. D. Bondarenko, chairman of the Ukrainian State Committee for Religious Affairs. Both sides recognized the exchange of views as important. Consultations between delegations of the Patrirachates of Constantinople and Moscow, aimed to overcome the existing divisions between the Orthodox believers in Ukraine, will be continued, with the proposals made by both sides at the meeting taken into account.
