THE STATEMENT OF THE INTERRELIGIOUS COUNCIL OF RUSSIA ON THE TERRORIST ATTACKS IN THE USA
Unprecedented terrorist attacks that took lives of thousands people shook the world.
We understand and share the pain of the American nation. There is no justification for the madmen dared to commit this monstrous crime. No traditional religion admit the possibility of such crimes, no matter how they are motivated. Our religious communities condemn the terrorist attacks in the United Stares as they had condemned blowing up the housing estates in Russian cities, kidnapping and murdering people in Chechnya, destruction of Christian churches and Muslim mosques in the Balkans, defilement of synagogues in Russia.
Horrifying are the losses suffered by the people of the United States and citizens of other countries. However, it will be even more horrifying if the satanist plan of its inspirers is fully realized and a global conflict is provoked. We have to make a distinction between terrorists – fanatics and loyal followers of Islam. We urge the politicians and mass-media to work on this problem with wisdom and responsibility, not allowing to interpret the current events as a interreligious conflict. Without doubting the necessity of a just punishment of the terrorist attacks organizers, we are conformed that norms of morals and law should not be broken as well as no peaceful citizen should be killed.
Let these event urge peoples of the world not to wars and divisions but to creation of a just and harmonic world order, where no brutal establishment of convictions and values would exist, but faith, culture and views of all peoples would be equally respected. Only in this case any base for terrorism and violence would be destroyed.
