A YOUTH CONFERENCE OF THE CHRISTIAN INTERCONFESSIONAL CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE TO TAKE PLACE IN MOSCOW

A youth conference under the theme “I am with you always, to the close of the age (Mt. 28:20). Christianity in the third millennium” will open at 10.00 on May 16 at the Central Tourists House (Leninsky prospect 146). Its organizer is the Christian Interconfessional Consultative Committee (CICC) which includes the Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches in the territory of Russia, CIS and the Baltics. The CICC is cochaired by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Hippon-Zarita, apostolic administrator of the Latin rite Catholics in the European Russia, and Rev. Peter Konovalchik, chairman of the Union of the Evangelical Christians-Baptists in Russia.

The conference, which is expected to be attended by 150 delegates, will focus on the themes causing concern among young Christians today. There will be round tables on the themes “Methods of youth work in Christians churches. Opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experience”, “Christian witness in contemporary society”, “Theological schools: opportunities for cooperation”, “Problems of Christian morality: alcoholism, drug-addiction, prostitution”, “The citizen’s attitude of the young Christian: politics and the army”, “Sectarianism, Satanism, totalitarian ideologies”, “Youth and culture: music, attitude to mass media. Mass media’s impact on psychology and way of life”, and “Christianity and secularism”.

The conference will be in fact the first experience of building cooperation and contacts among the youth of various Christian confessions.

A press-conference will take place with the participation of the three CICC chairmen at 13.00 on May 18 at the Central Tourists House.
