THE SYNODAL THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION WILL CONSIDER PROBLEMS INVOLVED IN THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS (INN)

An enlarged meeting of the full Synodal Theological Commission will take place on February 19-20, at the assembly-hall of St. Sergius’ Monastery of the Trinity, with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia.

It will be devoted to a comprehensive discussion on problems arising from the introduction of a new system of taxpayer accounting (INN). This problem has become especially acute because many Orthodox people are confused by the need to accept taxpayer identification numbers, seeing in them an anticipation of the apocalyptic «seal of the beast». Some of them have already refused to accept the INN. In this connection, assertions have been recently made about a threat of a schism facing the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Commission will consider theological, canonical, ethical, pastoral, legal and technical aspects of this problem. The meeting will be special in that it will be attended, along with its members – bishops, rectors, professors and lecturers of theological schools, heads and staff of synodal departments – by abbots and spiritual directors of stauropegial monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as Tax and Dues Ministry officials, State Duma deputies, secular and ecclesiastical experts and analysts.

Inquiries about the participation of the press can be made on February 16 at (095) 230-25-49.
