Orthodox-Muslim dialogue in Teheran

ORTHODOX-MUSLIM DIALOGUE IN TEHERAN

The Third Colloquium of the Joint Russian-Iranian Commission on ‘Islam-Orthodoxy’ Dialogue was held in the capital of Iran on 24-25 January. The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church included Bishop Alexander of Baku and Caspian region; Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, secretary for Church-State Relations of the Departnment for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate; Hegumen Alexander (Zarkeshev), rector of St.Nicholas Church in Teheran; Professor Alexy I.Osipov of the Moscow Theological Academy and Mr.Roman A.Silaniev, a DECR staff member. The delegation of the Iranian Noslems was led by Hojat ol-Islam Noumani, vice-president of the Organization for Islamic Culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia sent greeting to the participants in the Colloquium. Present at the sessions were H.E. Abbas-Ali Khasanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan and Mr.M.M.Pashkov, charge d’affaires ad interim of Russia. The participants issued communique on the results of the Colloquium. (see below).

On January 23, members of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church laid a wreath to the grave-site of Ayatolla Homeini, founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. On January 25. A reception was given at the RF Embassy in honour of the participants in the Colloquium.
