Young Christians hold a conference

YOUNG CHRISTIANS HOLD A CONFERENCE

Young representatives of member churches of the Christian Interconfessional Advisory Committee held a conference on November 22, 2000, at the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate. They represented the Russian Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith, the Union of the Evangelical Christians-Baptists in Russia, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

It was agreed to hold an Interconfessional Youth Conference in May 2001 to work out ways of cooperation among the Christian youth in the CIS and Baltic countries. An organizing committee was formed from among the Christian activists participating in the conference.

The conference was chaired by Hegumen Hilarion (Alfeyev), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations. The Orthodox side was represented at the conference by Rev. Roman Zaytsev of the Synodal Youth Department, A. Yastrebov, CIAC acting executive secretary, and T. Zolotusky of the DECR secretariat for church-society relations.
