SESSION OF THE SUPERVISORY BOARD AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THE ‘ORTHODOX ENCYCLOPAEDIA’

A regular joint session of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Trustees for the publication of the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’ was held in the Patriarchal residence in St.Daniel’s Monastery on October 30. Taking part in the meeting, which was chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and Moscow mayor Jury M.Luzhkov, were Metropolitans Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, Philaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Byelorussia, Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate, Methody of Voronezh and Lipetsk, Archbishop Arseny of Istra, representatives of the state authority and the regions of Russia. Discussed at the meeting were the composition of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Trustees and the work being done for the publication of the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’.

Reports were presented by Mr.Luzhkov, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II and Mr.S.Kravets, head of the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’ Centre. His Holiness the Patriarch noted that since the last sessions of the two Boards on 3 April 2000 some remarkable events have happened: a volume of the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’ has been put out and the scholarly editorial work at the first alphabetical volume has been completed. The presentation of a new volume will probably take place on November 23 at the State Tretyakov Gallery. Mr.Luzhkov reported that the publication of the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’ enjoys a nation-wide support. Responding to an appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, a considerable part of the leaders of the Russian Federation subjects expressed their wish to take part in the work of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Trustees for the ‘Orthodox Encyclopaedia’.
