SESSION OF THE INTERRELIGIOUS COUNCIL OF RUSSIA
A regular session of the Interreligious Council of Russia was held at the premises of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate on October 2.
Discussed were preparation for the Interreligious Pece Forum to take place in Moscow on 13-14 November 2000 and prospects of teaching ‘theology’ at higher education establishments.
On a proposal of representatives of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia there was adopted a statement on the situation with the Buddhist temple in St.Petersburg. Participants in the meeting called upon the bodies of state power to exert efforts to return the temple built in 1913 for the traditional Buddhist community to the followers of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia.
Taking part in the session were Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, chief rabbi A.S.Shaevich, representatives of the Central Spiritual Muslim Board of Russia and the CIS European countries, the Council of Mufties of Russia and the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia.
