STATEMENT BY HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH ALEXY II OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA CONCERNING THE ACT OF TERRORISM IN MOSCOW
I am deeply shocked by the tragedy that happened in the very centre of Moscow on August 8. I am praying for the repose of those who were killed and for an early recovery of those injured. I sympathise with the families, relatives and friends of those who were killed and all those who suffered in this terrible act of terrorism.
The crime committed cannot be justified by anything. At a time when the country begins to return to peace and accord, waves of terrorism are again threatening it. I call upon the government to do everything possible to stop the hand of the murderers. I ask every one who has such an opportunity to help the victims of the crime — to help them by a good word, contribution, assistance in healing the wounds, both physical and spiritual. I call upon all to pray for those who have suffered.
May the All-Merciful Lord protect our people from the ruin of bitterness. May He bring to reason those blinded by hatred. May He send His peace upon our land and in our hearts.
PATRIARCH OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA
