HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH ALEXY II OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA TOOK PART IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
On March 26, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia took part in the presidential elections in the Russian Federation.
The voting took place at the Moscow Patriarchate’s working residence to where His Holiness came after the divine service he conducted at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Dormition in the Moscow Kremlin.
Addressing the numerous the mass media representatives who came to witness the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church’s expressing his civil will, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia said:
“Thank you for the interest you have shown in today’s voting. I hope – and I expressed this hope earlier in my televised address to the fellow-citizens – that the Russians will make the right choice, judging the contenders for the highest public post in the country not by their words and promises, but by their real deeds and achievements.
“Today we are experiencing a very important historical moment, for we are choosing the head of state who is to take Russia into the 21st century and a third millennium.
I would like to believe that for our people it will be a time of creative work, peace and prosperity, for the elapsing century has been marked with too many trials, losses and upheavals for us. Our people have suffered to gain a better lot through their patience, staunchness and courage. I hope and believe that the worst for our Fatherland has remained in the past and that once-experienced trouble will never befall us again.
“This is why it is so important that every one of us should make the choice today that nobody will do for us. For the destiny of the country and people is decided today. Let us hope for the better”.
Taking part in the voting were also the monastics carrying out their obedience at the Moscow Patriarchate.
