MEETING OF THE CHURCH-PUBLIC COORDINATING GROUP FOR THE 2000TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIVITY OF CHRIST

The Church-Public Coordinating Group for the 2000th Anniversary of the Nativity of Christ held its first meeting on July 14, 1999, at the Department for External Church Relations. It was chaired by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, DECR chairman. This group was set up by the decision of the Working Group of the Russian Orthodox Church Jubilee Commission for Public and Academic Relations, cochaired by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna and Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad. The group included theologians, Presidential Staff members and representatives of Orthodox and secular artistic and public organizations.

The group discussed a draft document on the conceptual principles of church-state and church-society cooperation in preparations for the celebrations and projects for programs and events offered by various public organizations.
