Meeting between His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and the Slovakian prime-minister Vladimir Mechiar

A meeting between His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and the Slovakian prime-minister Vladimir Mechiar took place on May 27 at the Patriarchal residence at St. Daniel’s Monastery. It was their second meeting in Moscow, and in May 1996 His Holiness paid a visit to the prime-minister in Bratislava. Welcoming him, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said in particular that “we all have come out of the time of the lack of freedom; we all begin on a new, democratic path. Therefore, we have many common problems”. His Holiness also noted that traditional religions enjoy equal rights in Slovakia.
