Participants in charity concert call for aid to street children

PARTICIPANTS IN CHARITY CONCERT CALL FOR AID TO STREET CHILDREN

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, a charity concert took place on 22 April 1998 at the conference-hall of the Danilovsky hotel compound. It was organized with a support from the Financial Initiative Bank and the Swiss firm “Zepter”. Performers of ecclesiastical, classical, folk and modern youth music combined their efforts to draw the public attention to the problem of street children. Among those who called for aid to street children were State Duma Deputy A. Mikhail Men, Chairman of the Moscow Red Cross A. Tiulyandin, Director of the Moscow Juvenile Delinquents Center Yu. Lapshin. The speakers observed that the number of street children was growing in Russia. They expressed hope that the Church and society will be able to help street children to return to normal life and forget hunger, dirty cells, violence and drugs as a terrible dream.
