Patriarch Alexy meets with Danish Ambassador Per Karlsen

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church met with the Ambassador of Denmark to Russia Per Karlsen on December 9, 2006.

Among the questions discussed was the reburial of Empress Maria Feodorovna, mother of the last Russia Emperor Nicholas II, in St. Petersburg Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul planned for September 24-26, 2006. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy noted that representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church joined the state governmental reburial commission working together with Danish colleagues.

Per Karlsen said the Danish royal family and people of Denmark took the keen interest in the coming event.

Patriarch Alexy shared his impressions from his numerous visits to Denmark as a chairman of the Conference of the European Churches.

Per Kalrsen had already worked in the Embassy of Denmark in Moscow in 1982-1985 and noted great changes in life of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church.

His Holiness told his guest about the development of the Church’s social ministry.

Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, DECR MP Secretary for Inter-Orthodox Relations, also participated in the meeting.
