On November 14, 2008, the Moscow Sretensky monastery choir gave a concert in the Paraguay National Bank Theatre. This was the final performance within the program “The Days of Russia in Latin American countries”.
During the concert Russian ambassador in Paraguay Y. Korchagin read out the resolution of Asuncion Mayor’s Office, according to which the Moscow Sretensky monastery choir was awarded the title of the honourable guest of Paraguay’s capital. The document bears the signature of Asuncion Mayor Maria Evangelista Troche de Galliega.
According to the resolution, the title is awarded “due to the fact that the Russian Sretensky monastery choir performs a series of concerts in Latin America for the first time” and also because last year the collective “had great success in Notre Dame de Paris, UNESCO Hall and Vatican Auditorium”.
From October 17 to November 14, the Moscow Sretensky monastery choir consisting of 42 singers gave concerts in Havana (Cuba), San Jose (Costa Rica), Caracas (Venezuela), Rio de Janeiro, San Paolo, Brasilia (Brazil), Buenos Aires, Mardel Plata (Argentina), Santiago (Chile) and Asuncion (Paraguay). In the course of these 11 concerts thousands of Latin American inhabitants had the chance to listen to the acclaimed male team.
